About The Art - “Alkira”

The design of the ‘Alkira’ throw depicts the landscape of country. It tells a sentimental story of how the land meets a fresh water river, creating harmony between elements. Environmental connections are important to the community and create bonds between the people and nature. The flourishing flower represents new life, growth and change. While the wavy line illustrates a river, full of abundance. The two U shapes sitting on the river is the symbol for people and conveys the message of community and how mob is a part of the ecosystem. The vibrant colours help to depict liveliness and joy of nature.

About The Artist - Taylor-Lee

Taylor-Lee is a new and upcoming Indigenous artist from the southern Gold Coast. She’s a proud young Kungadidji teen who loves to surf, skate and paint. Often her art pieces will reflect this passion with ocean features, blue hues or boho pastels.

In 2023 Taylor-Lee’s artwork she designed for Naidoc Week was one of six highly commended art pieces  chosen by the Qld government. Not long after this she then went on to win the Young, Black & Proud Scholarship for art.

Taylor-Lee has since worked hard between her school work and surfing, designing new pieces that she sells on Instagram known as Ochre_Sisters in name of her and her younger indigenous sister.
